Introduction

Many people are confused about my divination system of Rumpology. This is understandable, as the system has been buried in time for centuries and is not well known. In fact, as far as I know, I am the sole rediscoverer of the system! The purpose of this article is to explain a bit more about Rumpology as a divination system, how I discovered it, and how I use it to help people.

Enjoy!

Human Divination Systems

Human beings have always wanted to get a better grasp on their world and their future for many reasons, not the least of which is to increase their sense of security. And of course, where there is a need, there will be people to meet that need.

Hence we have Querents and Seekers (people seeking advice from beyond the normal everyday predictors or possibilities) and Readers (people skilled in the art of Divination using various methods – astrology, cards, tea leaves, runes, bones, etc.)

Of course, the most intimate, and possibly the most human of these divination systems are the ones that use the human body as a “map”. The human body is a miracle, a miracle of biological engineering and a miracle of information!

For example, can you read faces?

Yes, there is such a thing as face reading, and surprise, YOU can do it, in fact you do it all the time!

Psychologists have studied facial recognition for many years, and skilled “face readers” -- politicians, actors, teachers, salespeople -- use this skill to their advantage because the human face, with its thousands of muscles, “tells” others what you are thinking and feeling! Its entirely subconscious and a reader uses the power of his/her subconscious as well as intuition and experience (which are the tools of the subconscious) to accurately read an audience simply by facial expression.

We ALL have an innate ability to read faces. It comes with the territory.

We know the more obvious facial cues easily, a smile, a frown, that blank stare when we confuse the daylights out of others! But there are other expressions that are more subtle -- the twitch, the slight opening or closure of the eye (or both) , the size of the pupil -- all these tell us a bit about what another person is thinking or feeling!

It can go further. If we look at the wrinkles and lines on a face, we can tell something more about the person.

For example, if I see strong laugh lines on a person, I can tell that he or she has a good sense of humor and likes to smile and laugh. I would begin to form a profile of the person as one who is congenial and likeable, for laughter and smiles are among the most endearing of human expressions. You can never laugh too much. Laugher is the BEST medicine.

Alternatively, if I see a lot of worry lines in a person’s forehead, some strong “crows feet”, I would be concerned that this person has a lot on his or her mind, and may be taking things too seriously, degrading his or her enjoyment of life. And that is a sad thing, for we are made to enjoy life!

Because human facial expression is so subtle and so subconscious, we all read each other on that level. But we don’t always pay attention to what we see -- not consciously anyway. We still do read each other and sometimes quite accurately, even if we are not trained in the practice. Let me help you out here -- in case your are lost.

Have you ever had a conversation with someone, perhaps in a job interview, or some important meeting and you suddenly get the feeling that you are losing their interest? They haven’t said anything, (and obviously they haven’t simply walked away) but inside, you just KNOW, something has gone wrong and you need to change your approach.

This is face reading! Subconsciously you see the subtle changes in the other person’s face. Subconsciously, they are changing their expression to say “I’m bored, I’m not interested, you have annoyed me” and you pick up on it. If you follow your instinctive or intuitive feeling, you will change your approach and get them back on your side!

Still confused? Alright, let’s try this one.

You go out on a date with someone you hope will be Mr or Ms right. Obviously you are nervous about so many things -- do you look attractive enough, are you interesting or entertaining enough, and so on. You’ve got a lot -- emotionally at least -- riding on this date. Love is everything, and no one likes rejection!

Well, of course in this situation your subconscious mind is running on HIGH alert, looking for EVERY clue to know where you stand with the other person. You are “reading” them on all levels. Subconsciously, you are picking up every clue in the other person’s body language, especially his or her face to tell you where things stand. And sometimes, you get really lucky!

Have you ever met someone and their “eyes light up” upon seeing you? I have, and the experience is unforgettable,. I found it with my wonderful husband, Stephen and I bet you have found similar experiences too.

Their face shows just how much they are attracted to you just on first sight! Yes, “love at first sight” does exist and happens all the time.

That’s face reading, and we all can do it!

Think about it, and enjoy the wonder -- for life is FILLED with glorious wonder.

The Lines and Bumps of the Skin

Enough already with face reading! You want to know about what’s going on at the other end of the system! We’ll get to that in a moment -- bear with me, it’s worth the wait.

Before we can talk about the Rump and Rumpology, we need to understand one other thing about the wondrous human body. It is an historical living document! We are all amazing.

Yes, you see, we all have a wonderful and fantastic organ called the skin! This is the outer covering and the largest organ in the human body.

Obviously, it’s what holds everything else IN. It’s not just a bag of flesh; it is a dynamic, ever changing organ that protects us and also TELLS us a story about ourselves and each other. And, of course, the skin covers everything (that should be obvious, but if you have some part of your internal body that is NOT covered by skin, please, visit you doctor immediately!)

Well, of course, considering what a brilliant design the human body is (and I strongly recommend that everyone look and appreciate their bodies, they are where we live!) it should come as no wonder that the skin itself tells a story about us -- a story as unique and individual as we are.

Everything that we do, that we feel, that we experience is written in the skin!

When we bump our shin (OW! that hurts) we get a bruise. What does that bruise tell us? It says, we have been hurt and there is actual damage to some blood vessels (they are leaking, hence, the bruise). Isn’t it amazing? While our body is hard at work repairing the damage (the body is a miracle of healing) our SKIN tells us “HEY, look here, we have a problem! Be careful here!” Oh, hooray for our wonderful skin!

There are other aspects of the skin that are part of our lives, but do not report damage, they report experience!

Come on now, you already know this! Open your mind to your intuition and you’ll get it.

Here, let’s look at an example – it’s pretty obvious and it ties into a popular divination system, Palmistry. You don’t have to be a palm reader to get this one, though!

You meet someone new, they extend their had for a handshake, you take their hand in yours and immediately, you get a sense about them. If possible, you look at their hand, and you see it is rough and worn, with many lines and creases. It is coarse, rough, tough, the hands of someone who had used these wonderful appendages for really hard work! So you say “What do you do for a living?” meaning, “What is your work?”

They reply, “I’m a mechanic” or “I’m a farmer”.

Is this ANY surprise?

Of course not! You KNEW it the minute you touched that hand! You KNEW this is a person who works with their hands and makes thing happen, hard working hands, hands that have dug in the dirt or repaired things, hands that made for a better world, however small that contribution might have been. NOW, you know something MORE about that person, simply with touch!

And the scholar, the office worker, the person who uses hands more gently is equally important, they just have a different role in the script of life. Their hands may be soft and subtle, may be very esthetic and elegant, reflecting they work with their minds. Isn’t life itself amazing?

And you knew it because of your subconscious mind and the tale the hands THEMSELVES told! Yes, the skin was the document -- the report, the revelation!

Now a skilled Palmist looks into hands in far more detail. I can’t explain it all here -- this is a centuries old divination system that takes years of learning and skill to master -- but YOU have the basic elements already available to you through your own mental and human understanding.

So give yourself some credit and realize that you know FAR more than you may realize. Open your mind to the wonder of human understanding and you can now understand RUMPOLOGY.

The RUMPOLOGY Connection

Most human divination is limited to face and palm reading, but there is no reason to ignore other parts of the body as well. For humans use all their body, every day in the course of living their lives.

A skilled Palmist could possibly read the soles of the feet! Yes, feet are very important, we stand on them every day and they support us! We could examine lines in the neck, the arms, the chest and so on. Why? Because skin is a document.

However, we don’t usually do this, for social and practical reasons. Feet take a real beating because we walk on them, and a person who goes barefoot a lot will have indications of this, as well as possible damage to the soles of the feet from rough ground. We usually don’t examine our necks because there is a slightly erotic connection there -- Count Dracula got much of his appeal because he bit people on the neck, and we all know the pleasures of “necking”.

And then there is the Rump, our derriere, our backside, one of the least understood of all the areas of the human body, yet one that is tremendously important.

Putting aside our social conventions about the derriere, the rump, the butt, let’s examine the gluteus maximums and realize how important it really is and why it is such a good source for divination.

We need our rump for a very simple reason. It makes it possible for us to walk! An anatomist could explain it better, but because of the connection of the upper thigh to the hips, that joint we call the backside or rump is necessary to provide the flexibility in our skin and muscles to move our legs forward and back and thus be able to take stride.

The rump also makes it possible for us to sit down and be comfortable. We all know the value of sitting – the chances are that you are sitting in a chair reading this right now. If your rump was not designed and built the way it is, that would be very awkward and uncomfortable with you. Think about it. When was the last time you saw a chicken sitting down? Birds don’t have rumps, and birds don’t sit down.

The rump is also an erotic and erogenous zone. Human sexuality is extremely important because without it there would be no survival of the species. So by NATURE, we all have an interest in other people’s rumps! Our rump tells a potential mate a lot about us.

Artists have been highlighting the human rump for centuries. Just look a classical statue and check out the rump! They are always depicted in the best light.

The common word for the rump, “Ass” is a pervasive part of our language. We use the word all the time, and usually in a derogatory manner, which is unfair to such a nice and important part of our anatomy. “Hard Ass”, "Fat Ass” and so on.

History of Rumpology

The ancients knew the value of the rump , and in some ways had less difficulty with it because they had a society that was more open to the human body. The Greeks and Romans took very good care of themselves (think of the Roman Baths, for example) and were not burdened by the shame of the human body that is so prevalent in many modern societies.

They also were very much “into” divination systems. Ancient societies had oracles and seers, readers who worked, usually with the rich and powerful, to help them make decisions and predict their future or better understand themselves. The “Oracle of Delphi” was a famous Greek oracle, and all the Roman emperors consulted soothsayers and mystics, readers, if you will, to guide them and give them a type of Universal Guidance about decisions they had to make, to go to war, to order the planting of crops, the construction of buildings, etc. It is unfortunate that our current popular view of history is so slick that we do not fully understand how detailed these people’s lives were. We all know that Nero “fiddled while Rome burned”, but unless you really research the man’s life, you might not know that he also managed the construction of roads and the establishment of laws to maintain Roman Society. Being Emperor is more that just fiddling around!

I have done extensive research into the history of Rumopology, and no, I am not going to revela my sources – there is no reason why I should – but suffice it to say I have read translations of historical texts and had many discussions with historical ancient scholars where I learned about the practice.

In essence, in the ancient times, a Rumpologiost (they didn’t call them that, they were called Seers, ) would instruct a client (a senator in Rome or other powerful person) to coat their rump with henna dye and sit on a fabric cloth or papyrus or other material that would pick up the dye. This made a type of “negative” impression of the rump revealing the lines, bumps and other markings in the skin. Of course, some seers didn’t other with this impression and examined the “source” directly, much as a modern doctor will examine your body. But the henna impression made a record that could be consulted at any time (obviously more practical than a direct examination).

Just as the lines and bumps and patterns in a Palm reveal much about a person, so the same patterns in a rump reveal much about the person. And each line, it’s direction, crossing lines, and so on were categorized by Seers over time so a type of catalog of common meanings was developed. This practice, because of its highly personal nature, was a well guarded secret, and so the documents about Rumpology were not easy to find and many were lost in time.

Rumpology Today

Today, we don’t need to use henna dyes to make rump impressions and look at negative impressions. We have the modern camera!

It isn’t practical for me to read rumps on a personal one-on-one appointment. But thanks to the camera, I can still do it. When a client wants a Rumpology reading, he or she arranges to take a picture of his or her rump and sends it to me. Modern cameras are very accurate and I can examine the photo in detail and compare what I see in the person’s rump with the knowledge I have gained about the lines, bumps and so on (yes, even the overall shape) and give them a reading.

In general, there are three areas I look at.

The Left Gluteal Sphere (the left cheek). This tells me about the person’s past, what they came into the world with. While that cheek is affected by time and experience, it still contains a recorded of the original “blueprint” of the individual’s personality and make up. Some lines may tell me that the person has natural leadership qualities, or maybe has a tendency to be stingy, or may be a generous spirit.

The Right Gluteal Sphere (the right cheek). This tells me what had happened during life, how the person has developed and where things went very well or very wrong. For example, if I see a leadership line in the left cheek, but it has a crossing line in the right cheek, I know that something has blocked or “crossed” this natural ability, making it more difficult for them in some leadership situations.

The Gluteal Crevice (the “crack”). This tells me how much the person has been affected by their time and experience in the word. This line of demarcation (similar to the corpus callosum in the brain) is not necessarily a straight line, nor is it always smooth and unaffected. If it is crooked, or bent in one direction or the other, it tells me about how experience and time affect the person, if that person still has a strong connection to his or her innate abilities or has changed with time, either through adaptation or by influence of others.

Conclusion

Rumpology, like other divination systems, uses the human body (in this case, the derriere or rump) as a roadmap to understand the human personality and give a prediction of where the seeker is most likely going in the future. It has an historical heritage and background that has been buried in time in all but a very few sources. But it is also a very natural divination process, no more mysterious or esoteric than palmistry. The human body is a living document of natural born attributes and abilities and what has happened to them over time. Rumpology reads that document on the pages of the backside.
